Dutch operator Heebink is running a fleet of international operated hgih volume
drawbar and semi trailer combinations. The Fleet is formed by mainly Scania and
DAF trucks and tractors. This Scania R380 Topline is still wearing the old livery
with the ivory accents. The latest livery is all orange. The Scania was caught by
our camera nearby Ghent (B) heading in to the direction of Antwerp. The tractor
is a lowdeck version, the semi a 100 m3 mega semi trailer.
A rare axle configuration toaday. In the seventies and eighties the 2 + 3 axle
layout was quit common. The cost price of a 4 x 2 rigd chassis is substantial
lower compared with a 6 x 2 or even a 6 x 4. Furthermore a trailer is easily
usable with 2 - 3 truck live cycles. Nevertheless today most operators are buying
the more expensive 3 axled truck chassis. Weight distribution is far better and
offering an improved safety.
A Volvo FH12 Globetrotter owned by the German subsidiary of Swedish
transport giant Börje Jönsson. the rig is hooked to a semi lowloader
curtainsider. This concept was quite popular for quite a while. It offered
substantial more volume compared with a standard curtainsider without the
weight penalty of a drawbar combination. Today the number of this kind of
semi's is declining. The mega trailer is simply offering more cubic meters load
volume.
